Oh man, I am so excited as I look at these pictures. I am just sitting here behind my computer grinning from ear to ear. What a day. That man has so much patience. I asked, "Is it soooooon?" every single day the whole month leading up to that engagement hike. I am so glad he waited for such a special moment. And it was so wonderful to share with our friends Ellen & Jo. They were so calm and collected, I had no idea just how important and exciting this hike was going to be! Oh man, what a day! I am so thankful I get to marry this man in less than 200 days. We have a lot going on this year, with him being in ministry school and me spending the summer in Africa. BUT it will fly by and before we know it, September 13 will be here. And I just can't wait!

So. Many. Stairs.
Currently reminiscing on my vacation a few weeks back. I was able to take a week and a half off and enjoy this beautiful weather by taking a trip up to Indiana with David. This is where he is from so he had quite the plans for us while we were there. Seriously we went on adventure after adventure. I suppose that is the perks of growing up somewhere, you know all the ins-and-outs of a place.
My favorite thing we did was climb 110ft fire tower. And I. Was. Terrified.
You know how sometimes the anticipation of something is worse than the actual thing. Yeah well that happened with this climb. I think I almost freaked myself out more in preparation than the actual 5 minutes it took to climb it. Needless to say there was no reason to be scared and it was amazing. It had the best view of thousands of colorful trees in the Hoosier National Forest and we got to see #4 of our sunsets together from up there. It was quite the adventure and it makes me want to do a google search on fire towers and hunt them all down. Here are a few snaps from our fire tower extravaganza.

Alpaca Funsies
About a month ago, the my little house known as 318b, joking referred to as the Palace, dissolved. I moved home to save money for Australia, Kristen moved in with some of our other friends, and Heather hopped a flight and headed down to South America where she is now making her home at a discipleship program run by WYAM in Columbia. Yeah, she's cool. So cool, in fact, that we decided to throw her a going away party complete with a great friends, good music, yummy food, string lights, and of course her favorite animals...alpacas.
Yeah, we're those kind of people I suppose. The ones to find a way into having alpacas at our cookouts....and for free at that. Hah! My friend Amber was on a mission to make this happen and found some sweet people who raised alpacas to come out for the night. Let me tell you it was so fun.
As the end of the night rounded out, there were just those who were closest to Heather left around the fire. We took that time to highlight some of her awesome qualities, out loud, in front of everyone. It was an opportunity to tell Heather the value we see in her and bless her as she takes off. In a way it reflected just how close of a tight-knit little family we are. I am so thankful for the community of friends that I have. I don't think I'll ever forget that night, especially that part of it.
Annddd....the pictures just turned out so fabulous, I couldn't help but share.

Chattanooga Birthday Extravaganza
Sunday, David & I made a trip to Chattanooga, TN to celebrate the grand life event of him turning 20. This is big news guys, we are finally in the same decade!! Woohoo! I'm 23, he's 20 now..get it? Ha.
Well anyways, I always have loved big celebrations of birthdays so of course we were going to go big for the boy I love so dearly! Special day for a special guy. Cheesy I know, but I can't help it...lovey doveyness is in my DNA.
We had the most fun exploring Chattanooga together. He is the best companion for adventuring, I just have so much fun with him. We started the day by biking Walnut Street bridge, scarfing down hot dogs and ice cream and exploring some shops. David has a strange thing for incense, and we actually found a store that sold some not so musky smelling ones. Incense are still not my fave, but its an endearing quirk of his, so hey. We found some paths and biked more through the park alongside the river. After stopping at a little coffee shop we headed over to the infamous Cardboard Sledding Hill and it was just as fun as it was hyped up to be. If you're ever in the area you will have to check it out.
We ended the day with a grand finale at Sunset Rock. Let me tell you, this place totally blew our expectations out of the water. We enjoy watching sunsets together, so it seemed to be fitting to end the day this way, but we were expecting some rolling hills and a pretty sunset. Instead we were on the side of a cliff and it was stunning. The hike to the spot is literally one tenth of a mile, so it isn't too strenuous to get to this spot. And gosh, it was just so worth it. I can't wait to venture back to watch another sunset with this boy. We have 996 to go of our 1000 sunset goal =].
Here are a few snapshots from our day:::

Family
One thing I know...my family loves each other tremendously. Sometimes we get together and we end up talking over each other...but we're talking. There is a lot to say. A lot of stories to share. A lot of celebration to be had in spending time together. A lot of love to go around. I am lucky enough to have most of my family within a 45 min drive and because of that we are a tight-knit circle. Nothing comes between us and my cousins are like my siblings.
It is so much fun to get together as a family and share stories over a good dinner tucked away in an outdoor Nashville eatery. Stories like that time my cousin Brennon went skydiving in a Speedo. Or like those times growing up that Taylor and Brennon thought I needed to know how it felt to have siblings so they teamed up on me and picked on me all the time. Or stories about how I loved to sing random songs at the top of my lungs in public such as walking into the grocery store yelling, "FIGARO FIGARO FIGARO!"
Oh man, we made some memories the three of us did. I love them so much and know we have many adventures ahead of us. Grand adventures.
Today I am just feeling thankful. Thankful for grandparents who have walked so closely beside me all of the days of my life. Thankful for an aunt and uncle who love me like their own, who have been such an amazing picture of how to do life as a family who passionately loves the Lord and have fun doing it. Cousins who are kindrid spirits, who inspire me and push me to be a better person, who are such a joy to be around. And a mom who is the most generous person I have ever met, who is inspiring, hard-working, and teaches me to relax a little and take life in.
I am feeling thankful today.

I Choose Joy
If I am being honest, I'm going to say this whole "big girl job" thing has hit me like a mac truck. People kept telling me stay in college forever, soak it up. I brushed those nuggets of advice off, dreaming of the day I would have no school work and be able to start a career.
Well all I can say is wow... I get it now. Trust me there are perks to working my field. I have an occasional paid three day weekend, I feel like I am truly helping people/making a difference, and get to be done every day at 4:30 with no homework keeping me awake past midnight. BUT, I have realized that not all work days are as glamorous as I have always dreamed of. Somedays they are just plain hard. It seems that before I have the chance to cross off the things on my to-do list, I have four more things added on. Not just menial things but things that need to be accomplished ASAP. Some days feel impossible to stand under all the pressure. Yep, you guessed it... ummmm, stressful.
But I think there is a valuable lesson to be learned from everything in life, not just the easy things but the hard things too. Really, if life was easy all the time that would be shallow living. Pretty happy, but I think the lessons that long affect someone can come from perseverance through hard situations. Some days are so long and emotionally draining that I am in constant prayer to God to be my source of strength and joy. I don't always see immediate results in this, but after perseverance there is such triumph.
Seriously, last week was one of the hardest weeks yet. I was on edge & under so much pressure to deliver, deliver, deliver. As I prayed through a particularly hard day, I was simply happy I made it out alive. But ya know what? The next day was filled with so much joy and laughter. It was like day and night in reflecting on the two days. There was so much breakthrough in trying to remain positive and praying through the difficulty of the day before. And when I felt like I was at my weakest, guess what? He was strong FOR me!

He is Risen, Indeed!
Today is Easter, so I thought this was quite fitting.
Our God was so kind as to send his son to conquer sin and death on the cross.
He took a punishment that should have been ours.
Because of this, we have the joy of having a relationship with God.
He did this for YOU. You are valuable & worth it.
He took on this sin, defeated it, and rose again after three days.
Today we celebrate. He is risen indeed!

Cheers to Spring Weather
Can I just say that I am LOVING the transition to Spring weather. I just want to spend time outside all day basking in the sun. What better way to do that in hammocks with friends?!
You probably have seen Eno's before and I am totally on the bandwagon. There is nothing so relaxing as hanging out in a hammock with friends and no agenda. It makes for fun times and great conversation! I think this is going to be a regular weekend activity for me in the months ahead.

Feeling Super Blessed
I truly am blown away with the kindness of God right now. These past few months have been a whirlwind with so many blessings and changes. Today is my the beginning of my second week of work and I am feeling so thankful and blessed for the position I have been given. I am truly loving it.
For a little bit of my story leading up to this point: last May I graduated college and I had no idea what was next. I picked up some shifts life guarding, got a regular nannying job, and committed to a year on part-time staff in a local ministry called Young Life. Yeah... juggling three part-time jobs was not the post-graduation lifestyle I dreamed of. Not glamorous but I was doing this with an end in sight, at the time. I actually thought my year with Young Life may lead into part time staff but this past January felt like it wasn't what I was being called into full-time.
At this point, I started praying hard-core about what's next. I really wanted to make a decision that was wise for me for this season of life...especially since I had recently been living in the poorest season of life ever. Seriously, I lived more frivolously in college than I did this past fall.....money was tight.
I had a feeling that I didn't need to strive to find something. Don't get me wrong, I still needed to work my butt off and be proactive (taking my resume, keeping my ear open, putting myself out there). BUT, I felt like it wasn't something I needed to stress/worry over and that I needed to just trust God for a door to open. Well of course one did because God is always faithful.
I heard about this job position as a case worker and immediately applied. After an interview I got a call two days later that I got the job. Could. Not. Believe. It. I really had just prayed for favor and tried to be myself as much as possible in the interview and it just dropped into my lap. First real interview ever & that was that.
Once I got hired there was a three week gap between my start hire and start date. One day they called me in to bring a copy of my degree and at that point informed me they were starting me out higher than they stated in the interview. Seriously, I got a raise before I even started!? Then...a few days into my job they told me they were switching my job completely to one I am even MORE excited about! Whattt?!
This is starting out good.
I am seriously so thankful for what God is doing in my life right now. It was just a few months ago that I was praying with a very heavy heart over and over again for God to give me breakthrough financially. Trust me, even in the hard times remember he is always faithful. He desires to care for his children and give them good gifts. We have a good dad y'all.
Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. Matthew 10: 29-31

Thankful Thursdays
I think a spirit of thankfulness deeply affects one's life. It makes for a happy day and keeps a joyful mentality. Also, I promise you it is the perfect remedy for those grumpy days. Oh you know the ones I'm talking about, that mood you just can't shake. Seriously, try and think of a few things and I assure you that mood will change and the probability that a smile will crack across your face is very, very high.
Well, whether you choose to be thankful or not...here are a few things I am thankful for:::
A new job that I am really enjoying. I am humbled to get a job in a social work and to be able to learn and grow in something I am passionate about.
Provision. It's happening all around me and I am caught in a whirlwind of breakthrough... new job, restored dreams, the ability to chase those dreams because of aforementioned provision, etc.
a 10 o'clock self-prescribed bedtime....my dad was onto something all these years...working full time leaves a gal tired
coffee, coffee, coffee
dance parties like this ::: oh yes, Murfreesboro Young Life at CMS jumped on board the Harlem Shake [sorry not sorry]
did I say coffee?
the urge to read a new book... next on my hit list: Seven by Jen Hatmaker
a new space to decorate- my office!
the fact that my grandparents live a few miles away from me and I can see them any time I want! They're so cute and boy do they still have it going on or what!
A spur of the moment invitation to see Peter Pan front row at Tennessee Performing Arts Center... Oh yes, I left with fairy dust on me from the original Peter Pan flying over the audience (played by gold medalist Cathy Rigby)
I am oh feeling oh so thankful at the moment. Oh happy day!

Restored Dreams
For my friends yearning to grow up, get out of school, and
get into the real world.
I think post-college life isn’t always as glamorous as we
expect it to be. Especially for
those who tend to romanticize everything in life, like ahem, yours truly.
Seriously. I
didn’t know why all these post-grads were complaining about “how hard it was”,
and now as I stand in their shoes I see why. But don’t worry I’ll spare you on the complaining. I am just
sympathizing that I do, in fact understand.
I will say that this year, The Eternal Summer- as we have joyously dubbed this season of
new-found freedom from school scheduling, assigned reading, and pointless
homework- has indeed had its perks.
As you can imagine the ability to pick up and go, especially if you
don’t have a “big girl” job yet, is quite an advantage. BUT what is not an advantage is having
hardly any funds to make that happen, much less to no longer being handed that
nice scholarship check every semester.
And some days I feel like I am running around with my head cut off
trying to manage all these part-time jobs to make ends meet.
On top of that, the pressure to get a big girl job is a
little bit out of control. At least
from what the world tells you. I
think a lot of us go into freak out mode and ask ourselves questions along the
lines of:
“AHHHHHHHHHHH?!”
“WHO AM I?”
“DO I want to do this FOREVER?”
“Can I really do ANYTHING with my liberal arts degree?”
“Am I settling into a life of boringness, mediocrity, etc?”
“Do I haaaaaaavvveee to grow up yet?”
“Oh this is what
it costs to be on your own?”
Yeah…those are just a few.
Most friends in my life are experiencing just these
momentous questions right now.
They set in sometime during your senior year of college and I don’t
think they really stop until A) You pursue your real dream or B) you settle and tell yourself that everything is
fine until you finally convince yourself that it is.
I think one thing I’ve been terrified of lately is prospect
B. I know, I know… God does NOT
design us to live out of a place of fear but instead out of a place of rest and
peace in His will. Buutttt
sometimes we don’t choose His will,
therefore we do not benefit in rest
and peace. I will say I’ve been
there.
I think it hit me this past week that I never want to take
the easy way out. That way, again
usually results in option B. I’m
not advocating making things hard on your self when it doesn’t have to be, at all. Don’t get me wrong there. But what I am saying is sometimes chasing
your dream looks a little more difficult, or harder to achieve. You
know what I say…GO FOR IT.
Seriously. What
if there isn’t another opportunity to do so. Do you want to say you chased your dreams even though it was
sometimes hard. Or do you want to say
you were too scared to do the hard thing. So you took the easy way out and
instead forfeited a grand adventure that was waiting for you. Not me.
Just a thought.
I think God has been EXTREMELY kind and EXTREMELY gracious to me this
week. He is a God of restoration
and is giving me back the opportunity to pursue a dream that I thought I had
forever laid down. Not so.
Here we are.
Here the dream lies right in front of me. And this time, I’m doing it.
I hope you will too.

Complete and Thankful
Here is an old post I wrote at the beginning of last year on my previous blog. I was reading back through it and it was a good reminder of some foundational truths so I thought I would share =].
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today I finally finished reading my first book of the year 1000 Gifts. Now let me tell you, it was a tough read...almost like reading poetry, but totally worth it. Within these pages lies such a sweet message of thankfulness to God in every aspect of life. It really hit me hard how seeing the beauty of the Lord in EVERYTHING each day totally transforms your mind and your relationship with God. Since seeking out God in the small & big everyday, I feel revived. I feel joyous.
For just a glimpse into the book, a few of my favorite passages are:
"Spend the whole of your one wild and beautiful life investing in many lives, and God simply will not be outdone. God, extravagantly pays back everything we give away and exactly in the currency that is not of this world but the one we yearn for: Joy in Him."
"How much larger your life would be if your self could become smaller in it!"
"If God didn't withhold from us his very own Son, will God withhold anything we need?"
"You have to want to see the well before you can drink from it. You have to want to see joy, God in the moment."
These are just a few of my favorite lines from the book. I feel like I highlighted more than ever in the past three weeks! I feel so accomplished for reading this book because it just had the best message. I desire to know God more fully and my relationship grow with Him and I think learning to bethankful in everything definitely pushes me towards that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some gifts that I look around my life and see currently are:
Friendships that weather the years, that you know you will always keep.
Those big AHA moments where you realize exactly what God has been teaching you throughout a season.
Seeing my family happier and healthier than ever.
Little flurries as we move into colder weather!
Friendships with those who live across the country that stand the test of distance and time apart.
Clean sheets & a made bed- thank you New Year's resolution!
