Merry Fridays.

It's been a few weeks since I have had a funny story for you but don't worry I'm back!  I was literally just reminiscing on this story the other day and cracked up.

So during a particularly busy season of my life, I found it my car to be the most quiet, peaceful place I could find to pray.  It became such a nice time in my day to turn the music off while driving and talk to God.

Well this one day, I suppose I accidentally closed my eyes for a split second at a stop light.  Right about that point in time my foot relaxed and slipped off the brake and I bumped the truck in front of me.  Oops.

How do I explain that I hit you because I was praying & closed my eyes?!  Yep that happened.  Luckily I was let off the hook and he just waved me on.  Grace, grace, grace. Hah, but I must recommend NOT closing your eyes while in the car!

Merry Friday y'all.  Happie weekend!

Merry Fridays

You might not know this, but I speak Spanish...I actually studied it all throughout college. I also studied French for a few semesters too, but lets not talk about that.

Anyhow, I went to Peru a couple years ago on a mission trip. We were in a small village off the Amazon River and part of our daily routine in each village included setting up a table where we could give families basic necessities.

Frequently, I would forget the correct word for something that I was trying to communicate so I'd circumvent my way around it by using other words to convey what exactly I mean. On one of the first days there, I could not remember the word for toothpaste. So I decided to get creative. Soap for your teeth pretty much conveys what toothpaste is, right? Yep, I was going to run with it.

So the word for soap in Spanish is jabón.  For some crazy reason though, I was thinking it was sopa...which actually means soup.  So all day, I mean all day long I told families time and time again "SOPA POR LOS DIENTES!"

The families would look at me a with a little peculiarity and then move on. It wasn't until the end of the day that another girl who understood what I was trying to say finally let me in on the fact that I was telling people, "SOUP FOR YOUR TEETH!" HA!

I don't blame them if they still think of me as the weird gringa (or gringita as the kids endearingly called me) who offered them soup for their teeth. I mean you use soup on your teeth everyday, right?

Happy Friday y'all.

Merry Fridays

Being the single gal that I am, I have some friends that like to try to set me up every once in a while. It is quite funny and most times I am not interested. BUT this one time provided for a hilarious story that I now get to share with you.

So, story goes as this.  I am sitting around with my friend and her mom who knows EVERYONE in town and loves to play matchmaker.  They start talking about this guy that I should meet that does missions etc, etc.  So I get on my phone and look him up with them, look around his profile but that is as far as it goes.  We changed topics in conversation and I had no intention of meeting said guy.

Well a few hours later I log onto my Facebook and have a notification that this particular guy has accepted my friend request.  "That's weird, I didn't know I requested him," I think.  Then I look over into my inbox and see that I have a message from him.

Message pretty much goes as this..."Hey Kelsey...I see you requested me. How do we know each other? It's okay if we don't...just wondering!" HAH AWKWARD.

I go on to apologize and relay the story of how I was looking at his profile because a friend was talking about him and his mission trips, but that I didn't mean to request him...blah, blah, blah.

Then he proceeds to tell me, "Well just so you know it was a joint request+poke combo!"

WHATTT. HAH just a day in my life.  Awkward awkward awkward.

But funny.

Merry Friday, Happie weekend y'all!

Merry Friday

So this one time, I had a close friend getting married. [Actually, a few close friends have gotten married at this point, but for the sake of this story: this one time.]

Anyways. Ellen moved out to Colorado a few years ago and met the man of her dreams.  She dated him a while, brought him back to Tennessee, and finally married the man!  They still live in Colorado but since her home-base has been Tennessee her whole life, she had a few wedding showers and the actual big day out here.

Well for one of these showers, the invitations mentioned bring gift cards for "easy travel back to Colorado."  This make so much sense.  By having gift cards, the bride and groom don't have to crate a ton of gifts back on the plane back to Colorado.  They can just have credit to shop at their registered places instead.

Let's back up a bit.

A) THIS girl didn't think about the fact that they flew here. They did not drive.
B) THIS girl assumed that meant bringing GAS gift cards for "easy travel back to Colorado." Yep.

So the shower begins, I stop by a Shell gas station on the way there and grab a $25 gas gift card.  I mean it sounded strange, but it's what they wanted, right? Or so I thought.

It is time to open the gifts and I'm slowly realizing everyone has gifted her and her new husband with Target, Kohl's, Belk gift cards etc. And then she opens my gift....the gas gift card.  That was the AHA moment.

Yep. I gave one of my dearest friends a gas gift card for her wedding shower.  Not my proudest moment.  But I must say it was with the best intentions! Ha!

Just a typical day in my life.

Merry Friday y'all!

Merry Friday

So we're going to do a little flashback on this awkward moment.

Once upon a time, ohhhh about 8 years ago, I went to prom with an older boy.  Gasp, oh yes it was happening.  I was asked to prom as a sophomore and all my friends were going with older boys too.  It was going to be the. most. fun. night. ever.

Everything you ever dreamed of as your high school experience, right?

Now let me back-track a few seconds and fill you in on the fact that my dad was in a newly season of life.  He was living wild and free and was dating this super cute but super edgy lady who showed up to our house on a motorcycle.  Wow.

Anywho, he was definitely channeling his "inner animal house". Yes that is his favorite movie. I know, right?!

So back to prom. I dress up in a great dress, go to a fab dinner with older boy, and hit the prom scene.  As I spent most of the night dodging my date (sad I know) but on the dance floor with my friends.  Right about midway through the night I look over in horror to see my dad and his new lady friend.

RIGHT THERE. In the middle of the dance floor.

Oh no, it doesn't stop there.  He proceeded to start the train.  And this train circled through the dance floor with many of my friends hitched onto this train. Oh yes..it happened. My dad started a train in the middle of the dance floor at my high school prom.

Honestly, I will never forget this moment.  As embarrassing as it was at the time...it's one of those stories we still crack up over at family dinners.  Its a great memory, and worth the embarrassment.

Merry Friday y'all.

Merry Fridays

INTRODUCING:::
So I was sitting in staff meeting last Monday for Young Life.  My ex-boyfriend also happens to be on staff and we remain cordial and do our best to keep it from being awkward.

Well each week we have an ice-breaker question to kind of dig into each other's lives and this week my  boss asked an extra question for fun with the upcoming Valentines day.

Oh crap.

So here goes, "What was your favorite valentine?" Well seeing as we broke up the day before Valentines day last year, I think it was safe to say not each other.  Everyone remained calmed and I managed to not laugh beneath the weight of awkwardness that our boss had just unknowingly created.  We were making our rounds through the room answering questions and then, as ex-boyfriend begins to answer, our boss stops him mid-answer.

Boss-man: WAIT A SECOND, did I just make this awkward for you two?!
Ex: pause...sheepish grin
Me: Well, not until you said something!

Boss-man: [cracking up, all the while eating up the awkwardness] Well I realized that there was a big elephant in the room so I figured I should address it!
Me: mmm, You shouldn't have.

Yep.

A day in my life. Awkward.

But too funny not to share.

Merry Friday Y'all
