If there is a soapbox that I am on right now, I think it would be the act of being transparent. Nope not physically transparent, I mean being open and honest about what's really going on in relationships. There is something about
it that opens doors to friendships going deeper and to stories being
told.
If anything that my
high school mentor taught me was that her being transparent made
me feel that it was okay for me to be as well. This was such a freeing thing.
The danger of
transparency is that pride is stripped away in the midst of it and not everyone
is willing to do this. By being
transparent one is able to show the good, the bad, and the ugly to others in
hope that they are opening up themselves and their lives to another. Sometimes this is one of the most
beautiful things one can experience. Sometimes it enables others to look at you
pridefully and completely misunderstand you. There is risk involved here, but with that risk comes an opportunity that you don't get when playing it safe and staying guarded.
Just a thought.
I challenge you to be more transparent in your relationships. Don't focus on ALL the hard things, but also don't simply put a smile on and fake it. Be real. How you are dealing with something might open the door to someone understanding how to deal with the same thing in their own life.

I think this is wonderful advice. I definitely hope that I will be able to bring some transparency to my relationships in the future.
